        RESEARCH

The Purdue "Serious Games Center" seeks to engage in and support research on the design, development, and implementation of serious games and virtual environments.

Current projects under way include a case study of a serious game for teaching history in a high school social studies class, and several design and development projects for new, educational games.

The center includes a development and evaluation lab featuring several game development engines and usability software supporting the capturing and analysis of all interactions taking place within a game or virtual environment.

The center also offers a library of both serious and commercial games to serve as examples for those interested in serious game design, such as the students of Dr. Watson's course on educational game design, EDCI 591.

Other center resources include a variety of virtual environment software, such as Second Life. This provides instructors at Purdue interested in utilizing virtual environments in their classroom a location where their students can have access to the software necessary to access the environments.

The center seeks to support a foundation of research on serious games and virtual environments at Purdue. If you need support for a research project or are interested in utilizing some of the center's resources, please contact Dr. Watson.
